Running to the gym and back

The gym itself can be gruelling, but for those who are looking to get results quicker, finding a gym within running distance could be something that you need to think about deploying.

Here are 5 reasons why you should find a gym within running distance, or if your gym already fits this criteria, 5 reasons why you should start running to and from the gym.

Increased Work-rate

An obvious bonus is the extra amount of work you’re going to be doing without really realizing it.

It’s not like you’re being forced to perform an extra 20 sets. It’s just a matter of running to your gym and back once you’re done, hardly strenuous but the increase in calories burned will be highly effective.

Warm-up Complete

This enables you to bypass that annoying 5-10 minutes of cardio you’re advised to do before starting any vigorous exercise.

Of course you may want to start on lower weights as part of a lifting warm-up, but it does mean that you can go straight into lifting as soon as you arrive which is something we’d all like to do.

This not only gives you more actual training time, but it also increases your metabolism and improves results.

Science

Science has proven that we get better results when performing cardio at the beginning or at the end of a session. Well by being forced to travel on foot, you get benefits from both sides of the main activity.

Range Of Movement

Too many men just want to get big and lift all day long. It’s easy to disregard all other forms of exercise because they perhaps don’t grant you the results you’re after.

By running to and from the gym, you inadvertently increase the range of motion that your body is exposed to.

The majority of men would like to put on some size, but very few would like to be a boulder with a serious lack of day to day mobility.

By using these two forms of exercise in tangent, your body will thrive and become functional not just aesthetically pleasing.

Gets You In The Mood

Running gets the body moving, it clears away the cobwebs and gets blood flowing. It’s also a great way to improve your mood naturally.

All of these components combined are a sure way to get you in the mood for the tough session that is about to follow.

Sometimes we can arrive at the gym, fresh out of our warm and comfy cars, with little to no energy or motivation. It then takes a short while to get yourself going.

The brief 10-15 minute jog you may face in order to travel to the gym could break that ice and have you motivated to go even on the opening set.
