Early Life

  • Born in Pittsburgh
  • Sold garbage bags at age 12 to pay for sneakers
  • Started selling papers aged 16
  • Also had jobs as a bartender and a party promoter
  • Attended the university of Pittsburgh for less than a year before he transferred to Indiana university to study business administration
  • Owned a pub on campus which was well known for hosting wild parties. Mark did well financially from this pub, but was later shutdown
  • In 1982 he moved to Dallas and worked as a bartender before becoming a sales person for your business software. He was fired a year later after making decisions without consulting his superiors first
  •  At 25 he started Microsolutions which he later sold in 1990, aged 32 for $6m. Mark made $2m for himself after taxes



  • In 1995 he started Audionet which later became in 1998. By 1999 had grown to 330 employees and $13.5m in revenue for the 2nd quarter
  • allowed people to watch events online through live streaming. The event that put them on the map was the Victoria Secret Fashion Show
  • That year Yahoo! bought for $5.7b in Yahoo! stock
  • In 2000 Mark bought a majority stake in the NBA team Dallas Mavericks for $285m
  • In 2003 he purchased Landmark theaters and would later purchase Magnolia pictures
  • Also in 2003 Mark was featured on the cover of Best Magazine for the release of HD Television
  • In 2004 Mark tried to create his own TV show called The Benefactor. The show consistent of 16 contestants vying for a prize of $1m. However the show was later cancelled due to poor viewing figures
  • In 2007 Mark released his book “How to win at the sport of business”
  • In 2011 Mark was announced as the 459th richest person in the world on the Forbes list
  • He decided to diversify his wealth and invest in multiple businesses


Current Life

  • Has accumulated over $1.5m in NBA fines, mainly due to referee directed comments
  • Mark is always looking at investing in more sporting ventures
  • Has many charities including the Fallen Patriots Fund for families who have lost someone in the Iraq war
  • Recent rumors were circulating about Mark running for president, however he was quick to dispel these rumors even though he originally created them
  • Has donated over $5m to the university of Indiana
  • Lives in a 24,000 square-foot mansion in Dallas
  • Watches as many Dallas Mavericks games as possible
