Male role models have been in film ever since it all began. The type of role model being displayed began as the big, strong, tough guy with a very old-school attitude.

Today we’re more likely to see a male role model in the form of a superhero, protecting people and saving the day.

However the male role model is displayed, one thing is clear, something captures us and inspires us to be better in our own lives when we watch these men on screen, which can only be a good thing.

In this post we’ll take a look at 10 male role model characters from the world of film, who may inspire you to become a better man.

The Top 10 Male Film Characters You Should Use As Role Models

Steve Rogers (Captain America)

Steve Rogers is the ultimate gentleman with old school values. He could probabaly get any woman he wants, beat up any man he wants and pretty much be an A-hole if he wanted to. Yet Steve uses his abilities for good, he treats everyone with respect, especially women, has morals and values, and has never forgotten what it feels like to be the little guy.

Robert McCall (The Equalizer)

Robert McCall the version played by Denzel Washington in the Equalizer is a great human being. He looks out for others, helps everyone he comes into contact with, fights crime, doesn’t want anything in return and is humble about everything he does as he acts in the shadows.

Peter Parker (Spiderman)

Peter Parker is another man who knows what it’s like to be the little guy and get pushed around. Other than when he lost himself in the black suit, Peter has always been a good man with the correct values no matter who plays the character. He epitomizes what Uncle Ben told him before he died, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

Logan (Wolverine)

Logan has a dark past and an aggressive streak, but he only ever uses it for all of the right reasons. Logan is that protective Father figure that so many of us love to watch. It’s a noble role and Logan embodies it perfectly. This can especially be seen in the the film “The Wolverine” when Logan travels to Japan and stands up for anyone who needs his help.

Rocky Balboa

Rocky is a role model for many different reasons. He may not be the world’s best person, he makes mistakes and he loses his temper now and again. But the key to Rocky being a role model is the fact that he never gives up and always makes things right in the end.

Superman

Superman is the ultimate hero, very much like Captain America he’s there to serve everyone. Superman’s abilities are a little out of reach for the average man, but his manners, desire to help others and morals are something that every man should aim to copy.

Christopher Gardner (Pursuit of Happiness)

Will Smith’s character Chris Gardner is a model Father. He remains with his son through thick and thin, eventually coming out on top after endless amounts of hardship. His ability to never give up, to always strive for more and to work hard are traits that every man should aspire to having.

Tarzan (The Legend Of Tarzan)

Tarzan played by Alexander Skarsgard, displays culture, protective qualities, fairness, a never give up attitude and respect towards women. This makes him a great role model, especially when combined with his raw masculinity.

Maximus Decimus Meridius (Gladiator)

Maximus is less of a good person, but it’s not his fault. He wants revenge after the death of his Wife and Son. But any viewer can see that at his core, he has the best intentions. Maximus is fair but strong and extremely loyal, things that have been lost in the modern world.

William Wallace Braveheart

Braveheart captured the hearts of men and women, partly due to Mel Gibson’s performance as William Wallace. Wallace was passionate, strong, loyal, driven and respectful. With everyone around him acting in the complete opposite manner his traits were amplified.
