tech interview process

The interview process has been a thorn in every budding career persons life at one point or another.

You turn up expecting to show them how great you are, and all they’re interested in is qualifications and previous work experience.

They overlook the fact that you’re the best person for the job, instead they opt for the person who got the best test scores in school, which has nothing to do with the real world.

The entire process is completely outdated and unfair to those with true talent in the majority of cases.

Just take a look at the questions you get asked.

Why do you want this job? Because no one can live on thin air you idiot and I need money.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Rich and better than I am now.

What could you bring to the company? I’ll just say what I think you want to hear.

The questions are premeditated, there’s no thought to what’s being asked.

This is the problem with interviews. People tell you they love the company, they’ll do everything they can to make it work and that they’d rather die than take a day off. But in reality, they just want to get paid.

10 people Interviewing 1

We’ve all seen the situation. One terrified person being surrounded by a table of executives who are inspecting their every move.

But how many people are really needed to spot talent? Too many people like to ego trip off their position of power. I’m the boss impress me!

Tech startups are likely to meet someone in a coffee shop or around their moms kitchen table. Yet in-spite of that fact the tech startup would still have the most talented people working for them. Appearances and pageantry are vanity aspects of business, no matter how big your office is or how many people are sat around the table, it doesn’t change how much you’re making.

Luckily tech startups are changing all of that by judging people on talent, and not on face value or by the clothes they wear.

Tech Startups & The New Interview Process

Tech startup interviews are natural and truthful. Partly because the people interviewing genuinely want to work there. But secondly it’s nearly impossible for the incorrect person to get the job, since everything is based on talent and evidence of that talent.

You’re not going to get a job at an upcoming tech startup on qualifications alone. Neither are you going to be able to put on a suit and gain some brownie points from style. Even being someones Son probably doesn’t guarantee you the job.

Tech startups hire the best every-time. A corporate business may hire the best looking guy because it’s a nice face for customers to see when they enter.

In tech you can’t afford to hire anyone but the person with the most talent.

Turn up in a hoodie with pimples and sandals on, but bring with you evidence of 5 successful programmes you’ve built and you’ve got the job.

Talent Should Always Rise To The Top

This is the way every job interview should be. Of course some jobs require a suit and smart shoes, but there should be less attention put on aspects like this.

The old school manner of interviews is very primitive. We’re giving people jobs based on grades, attire and their personal opinion.

Society needs to follow what tech companies are doing, and give the job to the most talented individuals, this is the only way we’re going to get great results.

So many world class entrepreneurs were turned down for jobs in their earliest years all because they lacked experience, but their talent and passion was overlooked.

It’s time to take a leaf out of the tech startup book and hire people based on talent not appearances or vanity statistics. Hopefully this is the avenue the business world starts to go down in the future.
